Watt Dixon Financial Advisor in Roanoke

After over 25 years in the Money Management business, I decided to start Augusta Capital, LLC. The trend in the Roanoke area , as well as nationally,  is that more and more independent money management firms are being acquired by banks or other large firms. The area was lacking in financial advisors that are not affiliated with banks or brokerage firms. Augusta Capital does not sell investment products, but manages client’s assets on a fee-only basis.

In 1981, my father started the Roanoke Valley’s first independent money management firm.  I began my career working at his firm.  I learned much from him not only at the office, but also at home, when the two of us would review stock charts and other investment articles.  I also learned very much about working with clients on an ongoing basis.  Attributes instilled in me early on in my career managing money were; client confidentiality, always putting the client’s needs first,  paying attention to what actually matters in the markets ( i.e. filtering out the noise), and keeping client fees low.

  • Client Confidentiality

One’s financial picture is between the client and their Financial Advisor.

  •       Client’s needs always come first

Augusta Capital operates as a Registered Investment Advisor also known as an RIA. RIA’s have a fiduciary duty to their clients. This means they are required to always act in their client’s best interest.

  •      With CNBC and the internet always sounding off and offering the latest and greatest investment fads, following a proven investment strategy is paramount to achieving one’s goals. Augusta Capital, LLC focuses on buying high quality companies with a steady stream of earnings at a reasonable price.  Staying in sync with the broader market is imperative. In the investment world , there is some truth in the old saying “a rising tide lifts all boats.”
  •       While commissions at some of the nation’s largest brokerage firms have dropped dramatically over the years, fees charged by many money managers and mutual fund companies are still high.

I have partnered with Charles Schwab Inc as my exclusive custodian for client assets. I have worked with Schwab for many years and they are the best in the industry.   In this blog/newsletter I hope to provide some interesting investment articles and insights into the financial markets.  My website, www.augustacapitalva.com provides a good introduction to me and how the business operates. 1. Congratulations Watt! I know that your father would be proud of you here on earth and definitely in Heaven!
My retirement investments are with Carl Grove, Edward Jones on Crystal Spring Avenue. My retirement funds have been with this firm for around seven years. Before that they were with a Wells Fargo Representative in Charlottesville. About the time I moved back to Roanoke in 2013,, he became affiliated with another Management Firm. He begged and pleaded with me to let him continue to be my financial advisor. He was placing some pressure because for every account he moved from Wells to the new firm, he would get a “bonus or commission”. I declined and went to Edward Jones where a good friend (Dot Leonard )was the Administrator of the firm.
If you have any comments I would appreciate hearing from you. I do not plan to change financial advisors, because I like and trust Carl.
